Helen of Tretchmore glances back and forth between the only two options with which she is presented: death by hideous suicide or marriage to Death itself. After looking at the cliff that she would have to plummet from, she stares at the hooded figure waiting across the bridge. Why does her village have to sacrifice women to the gruesome entity? Where did their bizarre contract with Death originate? The women never choose to leave with death. They always leap from the cliff to their watery grave, but Helen can’t do it. She wants to live, no matter what that life may look like. She is going to find out what happens when someone chooses to marry Death.

"Karen Dent has worn the hat of actor, playwright, director, screenwriter, and filmmaker and in recent years, fell in love with writing fiction. In 2000 she moved from New York and settled in Bradford, MA where she joined the Essex Writers and Artists Guild, a writing support group based in Haverhill. Her interest in writing fiction grew and sold a number of shorts to various anthologies, the most recent, a collaboration with her sister, Roxanne, “The Werewolf Murders” a noir/mystery in the Anthology, “Murder Ink, Volume 2”, to be launched February 25, 2017 at the New England Newspaper Convention (NENPA) in Boston.
Collaborating has been very encouraging for the Dent sisters. Their very first screenplay treatment ""Vixens"" (about the adventures of an all-girl rock-band) sold to Austin Films! an independent film producer.
Once Karen and Roxanne moved to Massachusetts they joined creative forces again, this time on a one-Act, “Young at Heart” also directed by Karen. This was written specifically for an Elder Community and garnered the Newbie Award from The Firehouse Center for the Arts where it was also chosen to show at the New Works Festival later that year. Another successful play collaboration was a full-length romantic farce with political overtones, ""Monkey Girl Blues"" which again was chosen to showcase in the New Works Festival at the Firehouse Center for Performing Arts. Her full-length comedy/drama “Tangled Web"", was produced in Manhattan at The Playwrights Studio and won their Golden Globe for new plays. To Karen’s play writing credit, she’s written ten one-acts and three full-length plays.
Recently Karen’s finished her first novel, “A Case to KILL For”, a paranormal/noir based on the same characters she created in “A Case To Die For”, a short story originally sold to Ticonderoga’s anthology, “Damnation and Dames”.
Karen’s first writing success was, ""THE SOAPS: Scene Stealing Scenes"", a book of audition scenes she wrote while still acting and sold to “Meriwether Publishing”.
Karen also wrote several film scripts, collaborated with another partner, Russ Weatherford, on several television spec scripts and was involved with independent film production. Her short screenplay, “The Bloated Beetle” won first prize from Screamfest Horror Film Festival Competition and she is working on turning it into a short story.
Just before leaving Manhattan, Karen and Roxanne joined THE SUNDAY CLUB, a group of independent filmmakers where she wrote and directed her first video, “The Trickster”. As a member she was production assistant and script supervisor for many of the other members’ film and video projects. Once she set down roots in Bradford, MA, she wrote and directed her second short video, “Kabuki Girl”, a character driven drama, with the help of TV 33, a local television station located in Haverhill. To Karen’s screenwriting credit, she’s written two full-length screenplays, nine shorts and several television scripts and treatments.
Karen is a member of SAG, AFTRA, the Dramatist Guild, New England Horror Writers (NEHW), Broad Universe, and Essex Writers and Artist Guild (EWAG). She graduated from The School of Visual Arts in NYC.
