The crowgirl has been protected by the birds since she was seven years old. This protection she extends to help her friends and her sister, who is pregnant. They move around trying to keep safe of the congregation of the Dead who live in the white farmhouse; sometimes, one of them wanders off and is feasted upon. Then one of the Dead approaches the crowgirl's sister with an offer which will save them all. All, that is, except the crowgirl.
