Patricia sits in science class paying attention to Mrs Evans talking about food chains. The other students pay attention to Patricia, tight t-shirt over melon belly. A live mouse is fed to the boa in a cage at the front, and Patricia wonders if a baby can inside a mother can hear the mother's thoughts, as she colours in the anatomy of the science textbook.
