When an exploratory trip to gather information on the black hole known as BH/Hawking begins to go awry, Captain Sergei Kolenkhov must make a difficult decision. His lead engineer has informed him that their resident celebrity, Andy Mercer, may be in grave danger if his pod is not brought back to the ship. The problem is this danger is more of a hunch than an actual reality, and Sergei is in no mood to deal with the overly dramatic Andy who would be enraged if he were pulled off of his current mission. Chloé, Andy’s wife and Sergei’s unrequited love, moves about the black hole in her own ship trying to glean as much information as she can from the scientific anomaly; she doesn’t believe Andy is in danger. Sergei must make a choice: ignore the advice of his lead engineer or enrage the love of his life.
