Alice and her father have a strained relationship since the death of her mother. She is living on the farm her father built until he can bear to return home. The discovery that a local man with land beside theirs has let the wild animals he keeps out of their cages forces Amos to return to protect his daughter.

About the Author
Michael Croley is an NEA Fellow in Literature for 2016 as well as the recipient of an Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Award. Croley's work has appeared in Lit Hub, Narrative, Kenyon Review Online, The Paris Review Daily, Blackbird, Virginia Quarterly Review, The Southern Review, Fourth Genre, and the Cleveland Plain-Dealer. He lives in Granville, Ohio and teaches creative writing at Denison University.
